About the Owner of 1st Choice Before and After School
Kare (A.S.K.)
Bill Black has a personal mission…that is, to offer the
best Before and After School Program on the market and hope
others will follow…for the children’s sake. He
believes underprivileged children should be able to receive
the same confidence building extracurricular activities that
others experience. He also hopes to encourage other
after school programs throughout the United States to hire
qualified tutors who can help the children complete most if
not all their homework by the time the parents pick them up
= more family time and better grades.
Bill Black was born and raised in Greenville, South
Carolina but considers Colorado his true home since
attending Colorado State University as an undergraduate.
After college, he became involved in ownership and
management of several karate studios in Atlanta, Georgia.
In addition to earning a black belt himself, he grew the
business to #10 studios and was voted 5th Best Martial Arts
School in the Nation out of 20,000 martial arts studios by
“Professional Martial Arts” magazine in 1997. Yoga and
Pilates were added in 2001 and a dance studio in 2007.
In 2003, he started his first After School program, adding
this to the Atlanta Karate Centers. He was finally
able to move “home” to Colorado in 2006. He began, 1st
Choice A.S.K. in 2007 and has since grown to 10 sites in
Northern Colorado, including schools in Fort Collins,
Loveland and Windsor. Bill has had numerous other
business ventures, including acting, inventing / developing
and marketing of a new golf accessory, and earned a private
pilot’s license. His hobbies include golf, billiards and
helping others who would like to start their own business.
He presently resides in Windsor, Colorado with his wife and
two children. He and his family attend Timberline Church in
Fort Collins. He attributes his success and many blessings
to strong family (including his mother Lorice Black and
siblings Larry, Carol and Diane) and faith in God.
